Taylor Swift – Red | Stream, Lyrics & Meaning

“Red” is the title track from Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album “Red”. To a soft rock beat, Taylor sings different emotions representing the different stages of a relationship. “Red” is often considered the color of passion. However, Taylor goes through a color palette to describe the ups and downs she has endured.

“Red” was released as the second promotional single from Taylor Swift’s album of the same name in 2012. Taylor Swift wrote the entire song and, to her credit, the song was well received by critics and fans alike. The song peaked at # 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, # 5 in Canada, and # 26 on the UK Singles Chart. It has also sold over 2 million copies in the United States alone.

At the song’s premiere on Good Morning America, Taylor Swift explained the meaning of the song;

“I wrote this song about the fact that some things are just hard to forget. Because the emotions involved with them were so intense and for me intense emotion is red. “

She further explained;

“They pretty much all talk about the sexy, crazy, crazy, intense, semi-toxic relationships that I’ve had over the past two years. All of these emotions – ranging from intense love, intense frustration, jealousy, confusion – in my mind, all of these emotions are red. There is nothing in between; there is nothing beige about any of these feelings.

About who is Taylor Swift’s “Red”?

Fans believe “Red” is based on Taylor’s short-lived relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The song’s hidden message is “SAG”. It is believed to be the acronym for “Swift And Gyllenhaal”. It could also represent the zodiac sign Sagittarius, which is the sign of Taylor and Jake. Other theories also suggest that “SAG” stands for Screen Actors Guild, to which Jake Gyllenhaal belongs.

Meaning of the lyrics “red” and review of the song

Verse 1

Right off the bat, Taylor Swift likens her relationship to driving a Maserati sports car on a dead end road. Maserati luxury cars are known to be among the fastest cars in the world. But what good is all that power when there is no road to ride? “Faster than the wind” goes the car and stops abruptly at the end of the road. His relationship too.

Taylor draws another metaphor to describe her relationship with the guy in the song. She likens it to freefalling through the air and trying to change your mind about the jump – you can’t. She took a leap of faith with him and soon realized it was too big a storm for her to handle. But now she is in free fall and tumbling into chaos.

Next, Taylor Swift brings in the colors of the fall season to describe the end of her relationship. The leaves of trees in autumn change color rapidly, from green to red and then to yellow. Towards the end of fall, all the leaves fall, leaving only bare branches on the trees. Coincidentally, Taylor’s relationship with this guy quickly changed facets and ended abruptly and coldly.

In the song’s chorus, Taylor Swift paints a picture in blue and gray to describe how she felt after losing it. “Blue” is often associated with feelings of grief, pain and depression. Taylor uses “dark gray” to look like the days after. Dark gray is bound to be black and shows that the breakup threw her into a hollow in her life. Trying to forget about him was almost impossible.

Nevertheless ; “But loving her was red / Burning red.

Red is the color of passion and lust. Even though their relationship was short lived, it was good as long as it lasted. Their chemistry was explosive and their love was burning. But often these explosive relationships quickly die out.

Verse 2

In the song’s second verse, Taylor Swift takes a walk through the past of their relationship. She remembers the good times and the bad times with him. One thing is very evident throughout the verse, and that despite the breakdown of the relationship, Taylor does not resort to any hatred towards him.

Taylor found it easy to love her. It has certainly helped that he seems to connect with Taylor on so many levels. Maybe they even met each other’s parents. Maybe Taylor even left her scarf at her sister’s house when they visited her.

In these lyrics, Taylor Swift still struggles to come out of this relationship. We don’t know what separated them from their scorching relationship. But either way, the reason for the breakup certainly doesn’t outweigh what they went through.

Whenever Taylor has a flashback to this relationship, she still feels the burning sensation of blush all over her body. Red was the impression that relationship left in his memory.
