Taylor Swift – Fearless | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

In celebration of 12 years Since the release of Taylor Swift’s second studio album “Fearless”, we’ve been taking a look at her title track and the album’s last single. “Fearless” is the first track from the album and the fifth and final single to be released on January 10, 2010, a year after the album was released. The song is an instant Taylor Swift classic.

Taylor Swift released her second studio album “Fearless” on November 11, 2008, following her self-titled debut studio album in 2006. The album spawned four huge singles, “Love Story”, “White Horse”, “You Belong” with Me “and” Fifteen “, before” Fearless “.

“Fearless” reached 9th place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold over 10 million copies in 2017. The song also won two awards at the 2010 BMI Awards.

Taylor Swift commented on her thoughts on the song on her then label’s website;

It’s a song about the fearlessness of falling in love. No matter how many breakup songs you write, no matter how many times you hurt yourself, you will always fall in love again. When I wrote “Fearless” I wasn’t dating anyone. I wasn’t even at the start of dating someone. I was really on my own on tour and had this idea for a song about the best first date. I think sometimes when you write love songs you don’t write them about what you are going through right now, you write about what you would like to have. So this song is about the best first date I haven’t had yet.

Meaning of the lyrics to “Fearless” and review of the song

Verse 1

In the song’s first verse, Taylor Swift recounts a romantic scene where she and her date are walking down the street in the rain at night. He walks her to the car and Taylor enjoys these little things. In fact, she appreciates every minute that he’s next to her. She understands that he also enjoys being with her. She makes him become a kid again, that he wants to dance with her in the middle of the parking lot. But he contains himself. And Taylor reads it like a book.

The “glow on the sidewalk” is symbolic of the glow in her heart through this relationship. It has rained and the streets are wet and slippery. But it’s only your perception of the world that shapes reality. When you are happy, the world around you seems happy.

In the second part of the first verse, Taylor Swift recounts a scene where the boyfriend is driving her. She can barely contain herself when he runs his hands through her hair. The use of the word “absent-mindedly” here suggests the “risky factory” involved in any relationship. It can always be a success or a failure!

In the song’s chorus, we hear Taylor Swift dive into this relationship with her eyes closed. This relates to his explanation of the song above; despite being hurt in love, over and over again, we still seek love and fall in love. Each time comes a new risk and the potential for heartbreak. But each time it feels so new and different from all the previous ones. So we dive head first!

Taylor Swift also adds that she’s ready to dance with him during a storm and in her best dress. It symbolizes how willing she is to take a risk with this relationship, as she has with all relationships before. This scene is also linked to the “dance in the parking lot after a rain” scene in the first verse.

Verse 2

The second verse is a continuation of the drive she loves with him. She wants him to keep going until the roads run out in this small town.

“A Town on Horseback” is an idiom that refers to a very small and boring town or village where nothing is happening. Taylor could also refer to this guy as the “white horse” of this whole village.

In these lyrics, a trembling Taylor Swift sings their first kiss, a moment of love and tenderness she will long remember. The whole song is about not being afraid to open up again, and Taylor finds himself shaking when he pulls her closer to him. However, in her warmth, she finds more confidence and courage to take the next step.

“Fearless” is a song about this sweet vulnerability of falling in love. Although Taylor is not in a relationship at the time of writing this song, she may have drawn the emotions in this track from her personal experiences.
