“Black Beatles” appears in Rae Sremmurd’s latest album “SremmLife 2” released about 2 months ago. Now, it currently sits at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, dethroning “Closer” by the Chainsmokers who have held the spot for months continuously. The sudden popularity of the “Black Beatles” is attributed to its association with the Internet sensation “Mannequin Challenge” in which a group of people pose as models and, when the beat drops, start moving like crazy. This is the first number 01 track on the Billboard Hot 100 for Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane.

“Black Beatles” is a collaborative effort of Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee, Slim Jxmmi, Gucci Mane and producer-Mike Will Made-It. The song essentially compares itself to the late great band “The Beatles” – the comparison mostly goes in the direction of fame and fortune of rising to the zenith of the music industry.

Review of lyrics, song meaning and analysis of “Black Beatles”

The song’s intro is sung by Swae Lee and Gucci Mane;

The Black Beatles in town

Return immediately to confiscate the money

The four artists involved in this track compare themselves to the four iconic John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star and George Harrison. However, they don’t compare their music so much to that of The Beatles, but the glitz and glamor that comes with achieving a level of stardom as The Beatles.

(ear cutters)

Rae Sremm, Guwop, Mike Will!

I sent flowers, but you said you didn’t receive them

But you said you didn’t need it

Ear Drummer Records is Mike Will Made-It’s label and it’s also Rae Sremmurd’s and it’s also a clever anagram for ‘Rae Sremmurd’ backwards.

“I Sent Flowers” is a subtle reference to the Beatles song “Hello Little Girl” which has similar lyrics.

The hook of “Black Beatles” is sung by Swae Lee;

This girl is a real crowd pleaser

Small world, all her friends know me

Young bull living like an old man

Quickly release the money, watch it slowly fall…

The kind of women that accompanies fame and fortune are described in these lines. They call her a “crowd pleaser”, which means she’s an attention seeker. She would do anything to please the crowd and get their attention. These are the kind of women you meet in bars and clubs and who will soak your wallet. All of these rich young rappers are living like it’s the last day on earth and the “public pleasures” are after them. It’s a natural cycle.

The fraternity girls are always trying to get revenge

Haters are crazy for some reason

Smoke in the air, excessive alcohol consumption

They lose it when the DJ drops the needle.

It’s the life of the party when you get as big as Swae Lee, Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane. Endless money and endless needs to spend that money. Sisterly girls and more, everyone wants a part of their lives smoking and binge drinking and they lose their minds when the DJ drops the tunes. Naturally, they have haters everywhere.

Verse 1:

I’m so gone that I don’t blink
What the hell was I thinking?
New day, new money to earn
There’s nothing to explain

Getting so stoned that Swae can’t remember what he was thinking just by looking at white people. For these black Beatles, a new day means new money-making opportunities and that’s about it.

I’m a fuckin’ black Beatle, cream seats in the Regal
Rockin’ John Lennon lenses, I like to see ’em spread like an eagle

Buick Regal is a popular American car among trendy and wealthy people. It also comes in a coupe version and Swae says it stands out inside the car decorated with white colored seats. He likes to wear John Lennon’s iconic glasses. Spread Eagle is when someone lies down with their arms and legs spread wide.

Went to the club and let her party on the table
Screamin’, “Everybody’s Famous!”
Like clockwork, I blow it all away
And get more
Find someone who can do both
The Black Beatles got girls’ bellies rolling
She thinks she loves me, I think she hangs around

Swae Lee once again works out the routine schedule of his life, which is nothing more than a spending spree with women and booze. “Like clockwork” means that something has become a habit around the clock. So making money and messing things up has become a daily routine for these young rappers.

Swae also encourages his listeners to find someone who can do both – earn generously and spend generously.

The Black Beatles have women at their fingertips. They waste money and the “girls” come. These women act like they like him, but they really like his money. Good thing Swae Lee is aware of that.

Followed by the hook, Gucci Mane verse 2 arrives…

Came with two girls, look like strippers in their real clothes
A broke bitch can only point me to a rich bitch
A yellow female dog with green hair, a real freak
Black Man, Yellow Lamb, Red Light Go

Women dress scantily, and these women can only lead you to another of the same nature – gold diggers and prostitutes. “Yellow” women are light-skinned African Americans and they go crazy with hair colors. Gucci Mane is known for his love of Lamborghini.

They saw that Guwop and the others had just entered through the side door.
There’s so much money on the floor we buy school clothes

‘Guwop’ is Gucci Mane’s new alias and it’s a no-brainer that these traditional artists don’t have to line up to get into a club or bar. They are invited by the small door. In these strip clubs, there is so much money thrown at the strippers paying for their children’s education.

Why are you bringing the slot machine to the club?
A pint of lean, a pound of weed and a kilo

I believe Gucci Mane refers to itself as the slot machine. You don’t bring an ATM into a club. Lean is a narcotic drink made by mixing drugs and juices. Guwop says his slot empties on Lean, weed and more weed.

I walk past a hater like I’m Rondo
I’m upgrading your baby mama to a condo
Like Chapo serving yayo to the gringos
Black Beatle, club closed when I say so

Gucci Mane beats his competitors like Rajon Rondo beats his opponents with his quick and agile steps in the NBA. Drugs became a part of their lives, like El Chapo (the most notorious drug lord after Pablo Escobar) who sold drugs to gringos or white people. Yayo is Spanish for cocaine. Gucci Mane’s fame and power allow him to call the last shots in bars, which also subtly references the fact that most clubs today run on drugs. So if Gucci Mane doesn’t keep his promises, these clubs come to an end.

Slim Jxmmi Joins Verse 3 Of “Black Beatles”

She’s a good teaser, and we blow reefer
Your body like a work of art, baby
Don’t fuck with me, I’ll break your heart, baby

Again, we go back to crowd pleasers and teasers, and Jxmmi says their bodies are like a toned, built, and tattooed work of art. They enjoy their cannabis (“reefer”) cigarettes. Much like Swae Lee, Jxmmi understands what these women are and advises them not to mess with him.

D&G on me, got a lot of flavor
15 cents on my feet, tryna kill these haters

D&G stands for Dolce & Gabbana, a famous Italian luxury clothing brand. Looks like he abides by the “dress to kill” rule because he wears $1,500 shoes.

I had haters when I was broke, I’m rich, I still got haters
I had hoes when I was broke, I’m rich, I’m still a player
I wear Gucci leather jackets like it’s still the 80s

Jxmmi says hardly anything has changed around him except him. He had haters when he was nothing and he always has haters for being very rich. He had hookers when he was poor and now he’s upped the game. Gucci jackets are another expensive fashion accessory.

I blew OG Kush, feel a little sedated
I can’t worry about a broke nigga or a hater

He likes his cannabis in its most lucrative types – OG Kush and I guess that’s expensive too, and probably gives a good high too. This high allows him to forget his enemies.

Black Beatle, bitch, me and Paul McCartney related

Jxmmi feels like he’s on the same rung as Paul McCartney and the rest of the Beatles, hence the reference that they’re related.

Ironically, even Paul McCartney took up the #MannequinChallenge to the music of the “Black Beatles”.

I love how the bonds are created around the music!
