Nick Jonas – “Close” Ft. Tove Lo (Lyrics Review)

0

“Close” is a track appearing on Nick Jonas’ latest album “Last Year Was Complicated”. The “Close” music video isn’t all that complicated for the intriguing eye. The song is about intimacy struggles between partners falling in love. Nick Jonas and Tove Lo do amazing vocals in the song it’s just pure bliss.

The single “Close” was released on March 25, 2016 and with the release of the album on June 10, the song climbed the Billboard Hot 100 chart. We expect it to climb even higher compared to its current position at No. 14.

The choreography in the “Close” music video is pretty amazing. We see Nick Jonas and Tove Lo sitting face to face in tattered clothes in an empty warehouse. And they are pulled together to the rhythm of the song, which symbolizes the struggle to get closer to someone. At the end, they break the veil and kiss.

“Close” lyric review

Nick Jonas begins the song;

(Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck!)
i am so confused
With just one breath I’m locked away
Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck
(I’m so confused)
On that, it’s almost shocking
I know, I know you know you’re scared
Your heart, your mind, your soul, your body
They won’t, they won’t, they won’t care
But I guess you don’t know me…

That ecstatic, electrifying, silent moment of gazing at your soul mate is depicted in the first verse. The singer is stunned by the beauty of her, he is addicted to her eyes, their hearts are racing. Her heart, mind, soul and body would go wild and the singer is here to embrace it all and soak it all up.

‘Cause if I want you, and I want you, baby
I won’t go back, I won’t ask for space
Because space is just a word invented by someone who is afraid of having too much…

This verse is beautiful, especially the last tooth. It connects to the next verse or chorus of the song in a beautiful way.

The singer says he won’t be back and forth with her. He’s certain that it’s her he wants and he won’t ask her for space, because according to Nick, space is a word invented by people who are afraid to get too close.

When you know she’s the right person, you won’t need space between you either. You and they become one and whole. There is no room for space if you are emotionally, psychologically and physically in sync with each other.

If you ever utter the words, “I need some space,” you’ll have to seriously think about the true nature of your relationship.

Let’s move on…

Close, oh
Oh, so close, ooh
I want you close, ooh
‘Cause space is just a word made up by someone afraid to get close, ooh
Oh, so close, ooh
I want you close, ooh
Oh, I want you close, and close ain’t close enough, no

The chorus of the song is simply beautiful and emotionally energetic. The performance given by Nick and Tove Lo in the clip is well in tune with the raw energy and emotion of the track.

Tove Lo joins the song for the first time;

Oh man, oh man
I’m not really known for always being speechless
But now, but now somehow
My words roll from my tongue to your lips, oh
I stay cool while you keep smiling
Say all the things that I think about
Oh man, oh man
I’m like you so I want proof of how you feel

The woman is also puzzled. She is talkative and she is now speechless at the emotions running through her. He talks about what she wants to hear – probably about intimacy and not needing space. He says all the right things. This makes her smile and she wants to know if this is really happening.

“Fermer” music video choreography

The chorus of the song repeats two more times and the song ends. The space that existed before ceased now and they kissed. Towards the end of the clip, the duo breaks up their space and turns it into an almost dirty dance type choreography. At that point, their clothes are ripped off because of all the back-and-forth movements that could symbolize the struggles of love in real life. But in the end they get there. They tear the space between them and become one and whole.

I think it’s a nice song and a really nice piece of visuals.
