‘Are you fine?’ is the debut EP from British band Lovejoy. The band consists of four members, Wilbur Soot as leader and lead vocalist, Joe Goldsmith as guitarist, Ash Kabosu on bass and Mark Boardman who is the band’s drummer. Wilbur Soot has previously released solo material such as “Your New Boyfriend” and “I’m in Love with an E-Girl”.
In “Taunt,” the singers are heard talking about their past relationships. There aren’t many good memories. But they remember how she used to taunt them with a stern expression on her face. As usual, the guy had no idea. In the music video, GeorgeNotFound is seen sitting in a small enclosure and the band members taunting him in various ways.

“Taunt” lyric meaning and song review
In the first verse of the song, we hear Wilbur Soot sing about how she was so boring to the point that he so appreciates how time flies. It seems she kept asking him “if he was okay” and the singer was tired of answering the same question a million times. Sometimes he answered reluctantly, and other times he pretended to be asleep. She didn’t see that it was her who made him not look so good.
The singer not so fondly remembers one of her facial expressions. He remembers her wrinkling her nose bridge (an expression of annoyance) against him. He never really understood if that expression made sense because she seemed to do it all the time and he had no idea why. So he took it as a joke. Or it looked like a taunt.
The singer thinks back to school days when she was probably the prettiest girl around. He wonders if anyone ever said no to him for anything. She might have the same mindset in this relationship with him, which almost never works out well.
In the song’s second verse, Wilbur Soot sings more about their relationship. He remembers how she was quite self-centered (maybe school habits). She always had something on her plate. Maybe he wasn’t really a priority for her. The singer also calls her insecure, which somewhat contradicts what he has said about her so far. Maybe she’s putting on a charade to cover up her insecurities?
The singer says he is a listener. But is he an observer? He makes fun of himself when he’s drunk. But he justifies this by saying that he is simply trying to understand her.
The song’s outro is no different from the rest. He recounts a scene where the girl rushes to the door, without even waiting for the taxi. The singer is still standing in her bedroom trying to figure out why she threw her drink at him! He took it as a joke. It looks like a fun time.
Through it all, the singer is just glad time flew.
