Lana Del Rey “Arcadia” Lyrics Song Meaning And Review

Throughout the song, Lana Del Rey shows her love for the city of LA by personifying different parts of her body in different parts of the city. However, the song carries the sultry elements of Lana Del Rey built into the interior.

Verse 1

In the song’s opening verse, Lana pays homage to the city of Los Angeles, which was once her home. The city is nicknamed the “City of Angels”.

Lana compares her breasts to that of the Sierra Madre, a mountainous region of Los Angeles. The metaphor is pretty self-explanatory.

She also compares her hips to the curves of the freeways that run through LA. The clip shows Lana’s many curves, in skin-tight blue jeans and a high neckline.

Finally, she brings a touch of sexual flavor to the song saying that her hands were like a Toyota or a Land Rover rolling on the freeways of her body.

Chorus

Lana Del Rey sings about the city of Arcadia as the city she wants to be. It’s a small town in Los Angeles, also on the edge of the Sierra Madre region mentioned earlier. She compares this city to her heart. All the roads connect to this city, just like all the blood vessels in her body pump blood to her heart.

According to the Merriam dictionary, ‘Arcadia’ also symbolizes “A place of rustic innocence and simple and quiet pleasure. Arcadian can mean “idyllically pastoral” or “idyllically innocent, simple or serene”.

Verse 2

In the song’s second verse, Lana Del Rey continues the theme. She compares her hips to San Gabriel, another small town in Los Angeles. Why he is compared to his hips is lost on us. If you know the connection, leave a comment below.

Although she adores Los Angeles throughout the song, Lana Del Rey knows she is not from the city. LA might call her, but she knows her heart belongs to “Chemtrails Over the Country Club”.

Outro

In these final words, Lana Del Rey says goodbye to the city of Los Angeles. Despite so much in common with its soul, this city is cruel. Lana has lived much of her celebrity life in Los Angeles which was the highlight of her career.

They built me three hundred feet high just to tear me down
So I leave with nothing but laughs, and this town

But this city can tear you down just as easily. Lana regrets how heartwarming her Midwestern hometowns were. Everyone supported each other.

Lana says she received a lot of hate during her time in Los Angeles, without which she could have lived. So she goes home, as humble as when she left the house. On the way home, she prays for a miracle for the city of LA and America as a whole. Lana Del Rey has lived through her share of controversies which have earned her a somewhat damaged reputation. Maybe LA reacted a bit harshly to these controversies. But is Lana baffled by these? Probably not – the many times she turns her middle finger towards the camera in this music video might give you a clue.
