Kanye West – Believe What I Say | Lyrics Meaning Explained

“Believe What I Say” is the tenth track from Kanye West’s 2021 album “DONDA”. The song is primarily performed by Kanye West, with the bridge and interlude performed by Buju Banton. In the song, Kanye appears to be speaking directly to all of his listeners, fans and critics, saying he’s aware that he can’t please everyone.

‘Donda’ is Kanye West’s tenth studio album released on August 29, 2021, having been repeatedly teased and delayed. Kanye West hosted two evenings of listening to the album at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta before the album’s release, and the third in Chicago. This song was played the second time you listen to it.

Kanye West hasn’t been the perfect role model throughout his career with one controversy after another. He realizes that people have always had issues with the way he delivered what he meant. Either way, he always had good intentions in mind.

Kanye West “Believe What I Say” Lyrics Song Meaning And Review

Verse 1

In the song’s opening verse, Kanye West seems to talk about how expectations have always been high throughout his career. Everyone looks to Kanye to give them some sort of super power to solve all their problems. However, he is as human as the rest of us and things like that weigh on him.

Often times, Kanye West used controversial means to express his thoughts, which caused massive backlashes. For example, Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift during her 2009 VMA “Video of the Year” acceptance speech to announce that Beyonce deserved the award. His intentions were in the right place, but his actions were far from the norm. In February 2016, Kanye West tweeted that convicted sex offender Bill Cosby was innocent. There is more.

Disagree with the post, disagree with the methods

When its method of delivery fails, the message is often buried in drama. Kanye may have had good intentions, but his delivery failed.

In the song hook, Kanye West sings that no one should let his success change who he was before when he had nothing. Or at least change for the better. He advises us all not to lose our connection with the Lord. It is the source of all the love we need in our lives.

Verse 2

In the song’s second verse, Kanye West discusses his online interactions with fans and critics. Kanye West has been very active on Twitter and it hasn’t all been very positive for him. He even posted his entire musical contract with Universal Music Group on his Twitter for the world to see. Again, for the right reasons, but the wrong approach.

Ye says it’s a way for him to release the stress in his head. If he had kept everything he thought inside himself, it might have made him mad.

Even if I have to do it solo, even if I have to do it without a promo
I did not understand

After all the drama he’s been through in his life, Ye says he still hasn’t been able to get his point across.

Then Ye goes into a rant about the demands he has from fans and critics. He says he has everything he can give and what more do we want from him? The crazy behavior of the fans was visible every time the ‘Donda’ album was delayed. All of Ye’s social media posts were inundated with threats to release the album. You don’t owe anyone anything.

Don’t get involved in things they don’t need to know

It doesn’t get any clearer than that. No one cares about the privacy of Ye, who was also at risk due to his recent divorce announcement from wife Kim Kardashian. Even she may have received a backlash for this decision, which is absolutely their private ordeal.

Bridge / Interlude

These sections are performed by Jamaican singer Buju Banton. The lyrics seemingly speak of a relationship, or rather its downfall. The singer talks to their partner about their decision to leave him. He warns her that they are easily swayed by people and things that don’t have their best interests in mind. However, the singer says his significant other didn’t play him for a jerk even though the whole world seemed to think so.
