Juice WRLD – You Wouldn’t Understand | Lyrics Meaning Explained

“You Wouldn’t Understanding” is the third track from Juice WRLD 2021’s “Fighting Demons” album. The song is a reminder of who Juice WRLD was – a man who was out of step with the things around him and who lived his life to the fullest. Unfortunately, this is not sustainable and this “happiness” is not real. But he says ‘you wouldn’t understand’ so what can we say ?!

Juice WRLD released their second posthumous album “Fighting Demons” on December 10, 2021. This also marks the second anniversary of Juice’s death on December 8, 2019, following a drug overdose. His posthumous debut album ‘Legends Never Die’ remains the most successful posthumous debut album.

The theme of “You Wouldn’t Understand” is “I live my life like it’s my last days” which is a dangerous way to live. However, when we look through the curtain we see a distraught man trying to fill a void. His lifestyle is the result of what he fights within himself. We understand the effects of what his lifestyle can do to him, but we may not be able to understand his inner demons.

Juice WRLD “You Wouldn’t Understand” Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

Juice WRLD stays honest throughout this song. He says his professional success has allowed him to do what he wanted, when he wanted. It’s not something a desperate man would say. This is something a self-realized man would say. However, we fail to see what really made it become like this. So, he tells us.

I’m lost in my abyss (Uh-huh)
Wake up, all I see is black, a solar eclipse (Uh-huh)

Throughout his album “Fighting Demons”, Juice WRLD explains how he battled mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. An abyss is a place without borders and without light. You can’t just get out of an abyss. Juice equates his mind’s status to the effect of a solar eclipse when the Sun is blocked by the Moon passing through the sky, which blocks sunlight and casts a massive shadow on Earth. While a solar eclipse doesn’t make Earth black, Juice’s spirit does.

I haven’t slept for six days
Poppin ‘Percs, I can’t think right

To get out of his dark mental state, Juice relies on drugs – the wrong guy. He started taking pills such as Percocet, a highly addictive pain reliever. That’s when we realize that “doing what he wanted” meant taking drugs. He starts his day with drugs because he finds no other way to cope with the mental state he finds himself in.

I break the pill into minerals (what else?)
Then I put it in my cereal, uh (what else?)

These two lines show the worst situation Juice was stuck in. Cereals are a breakfast meal. His breakfast is accompanied by drugs and the day only gets worse from here. The worst of the words above is the adlib “what else?” It’s like he’s lost for other options. He doesn’t know what else to do but to drown in drugs from breakfast to the next breakfast.

Juice WRLD also talks a lot about the use of firearms, perhaps as an attempt to break free from threats in one’s own mind.

However, Juice WRLD also screams out some of his inspirations in the industry such as John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Idol.

Juice WRLD was quite at odds with his own emotions and demons. The limelight he received at a very young age would not have helped his cause.
