Cordae – Parables (Remix) Ft. Eminem | Lyrics Meaning Revealed

Cordae just released their most anticipated second studio album “From a Birds Eye View” and everyone is, of course, talking about the new joint with Eminem. The new song is titled “Parables (Remix)” and is about each rapper’s life so far, mistakes and ups.

Cordae has been open about his love for Eminem and his music and his interest in working with Em. This led him to a previous remix of Eminem on “Killer” with Jack Harlow. Thus, the new collaboration is not a surprise, but rather a welcome gift.

According to online dictionaries, a parabola means “a short, simple story that teaches or explains an idea, especially a moral or religious idea.” So, it’s clear what Cordae and Eminem wanted to do in this remix – a three-verse, five-minute reflection on their lives so far.

Cordae “Parables (Remix)” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

Verse 1

Cordae talks about his upbringing from the trenches to the shining star he is today. He admits his past mistakes and wonders if people let the past slip by. On reflection, he doesn’t care what other people think. If people are going to hold his past on them now, let them carry that weight. It explodes forward and forward.

My first mistake was flying on Niken bikes
Watch my moves and I’ll show you what an icon looks like

Cordae also hints at how society was designed for the downfall of people like him. It was a war between the trenches and the suburbs – he shouldn’t have stood a chance. But he did. He may not be early for the party, but he’ll definitely crash the party for the biggest chunk.

Nigga, fuck the early bird, nigga
I’ll get that fucking chicken

The well-known idiom says that early risers catch the best worms, which means you have to be diligent in your ways to win. However, people like Cordae were roughed up from the start. So they’re late for the party. But, nevertheless, they will reap a better result in the end. IRL, Cordae has established himself in music history as one of the best newcomers to the rap game.

Verse 2

In the second verse, Cordae changes tone. He talks about his life growing up. It came from poverty and hunger is more powerful than laws and morals. He admits the things he has done in the past and he is very happy to have left that life behind.

A dead end, or jail time, where we were headed
Instead, when I got bread, I broke it with brothers

Cordae knows her life was heading to a complete halt at a young age. He is therefore happy to have been able to change course.

But Cordae also says he was able to maintain some of the friendships he had on the streets to this day. It shows he’s still grounded and hasn’t forgotten where he came from.

Cordae also gives a shout out to iconic rap duo Rae Sremmurd at the end of his verse on “Parables (Remix)”.

Verse 3

Eminem jumps on the track to tell us his story – a story he’s told countless times before in his own discography. However, each time he tells a story, it has a different tone.

Eminem kicks off his verse by mentioning The Source magazine, which he’s had beef with since the early days. The Source magazine rated Eminem as low as possible for “unknown” reasons. The magazine also rates music with pickup numbers out of five. So, like any young rapper at the time, all Eminem wanted was a five-mic rating from one of the biggest hip hop magazines of the time. Eminem opened up about his beef with Benzino, who was co-owner of The Source magazine in its early days.

Next, Eminem spits on Tekashi 6ix9ine, a beef that only dates back to 2018. Tekashi took several online swipes at Eminem for being old and irrelevant in the rap game. Eminem never took the time to respond to the weight hunt. However, Tekashi will likely be muddied forever in Em’s words.

I relapse, I think I can’t stop eating Beat Pills
And Doctor DRE keep giving me refills

‘Relapse’ is a notorious album by Eminem from 2009 and produced by Dr. Dre. While Eminem gives a nod to this album, he also says that Dr. Dre. still watch it today. Their friendship was one for the books. These lyrics also spark rumors that Eminem’s next album could be Relapse-themed – an inherently horror album with incredible flows. The “Relapse” album was later re-released as “Relapse: Refill” with seven bonus tracks included.

These lines are also a double that screams Beats By Dr. Dre speakers. That becomes a triple when you consider that Dr. Dre is literally giving Eminem musical beats to spit on.

I was painfully shy, now I’m proud of myself
Like Obama’s kids, I came out of my shell (Michelle)

It’s pretty rare and nice to hear that Eminem says he’s proud of himself. Eminem seems to be canceled every other day on social media for no other reason than he turns 50. He’s still a controversial topic and he’s still being dismissed as the white boy of hip hop! However, Eminem had to overcome so many hurdles early on to be the legend he is today.

Based on the album title, Eminem also says he sits in a position where he can see everything from a bird’s eye view. Eminem has toyed with the idea that he’s a rap god rather than a rap mortal at this point. “Zeus” is also a track from Em’s latest album “Music to Be Murdered By”.

In the final part of Eminem’s verse, he reflects on the times when he had nothing. It was his mother, his brother and himself against the world. He remembers being kicked out of his house in freezing weather with no food in his stomach. He remembers times when he had no money to buy a Christmas present for his children.

Today, Eminem is one of the best-selling artists of all time and the best-selling rapper of all time. He still outsells your favorite artist and tied Taylor Swift for most albums with over 100 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart with seven albums. And Taylor Swift is mainstream!
